  • Making a charitable donation from an IRA can help you save on taxes and make a lasting impact on the lives of future generations of people with intellectual disabilities.

    Important to note:

The IRS allows individuals age 70.5 and older to transfer a charitable donation of up to $100,000 directly from their IRA to one or multiple charities each calendar year.

QCDs can be used to meet all or part of an IRA required minimum distribution.

You pay no income tax on Qualified Charitable Distributions. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your taxes.

  • A donor-advised fund is a simple way to invest in the charities closest to your heart. By establishing a donor-advised fund through L’Arche, you empower our organization to manage an investment account on your behalf. These funds further our mission of belonging while you enjoy yearly tax deductions.

  • Planned giving or estate giving is easy to arrange and empowers you to leave a larger gift to L’Arche than you may have thought possible. By L’Arche St. Louis in your estate, you allow us and further generations to continue creating a world that welcomes difference and celebrates the unique gifts of all—a world in which each person has a genuine place of belonging.

Planned giving begins by working with your attorney to include or adapt the following language in your will, specifying the gift or bequest you wish to allocate to L’Arche St. Louis.

“I give, devise, and bequeath to L’Arche St. Louis $____ (or__%) to be used for its general purposes.”

“To L’Arche St. Louis, Inc., known and recognized as L’Arche St. Louis, with offices currently located at 9445 Litzsinger Rd, Brentwood, MO 63144, for their use as determined by the Board of Trustees.”

If you have already established estate giving to L’Arche St. Louis, please let us know so we can thank you! Contact Emma Pieper (emmapieper@larchestlouis.org) or call 314-395-5851 for more information.

As with any gift, check with your tax and/or financial advisor to evaluate which option(s) are right for you.

Global Impact: L’Arche Solidarity

As part of an international federation of over 150 communities in 38 countries, L’Arche St. Louis is committed to supporting our L’Arche family around the world. This includes many L’Arche communities in 17 countries which do not receive government support. They are signs of hope in places where the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are not valued.

Through financial and relational support (which we call “Solidarity”), these communities are able to thrive and reach hundreds of people through homes, workshops, school programs, and outreach.

Donor Spotlights: Planned Estate Giving

The Agniel

Family

“I have seen the Core Members given opportunities for growth and living life to the fullest. I want to make sure these opportunities continue into the future. I believe in what I see there.”

The Agniel family has supported the L’Arche St. Louis homes and members in countless ways. Whether cooking dinner, providing transportation, serving on the Board of Directors, planning events, or being loving and dedicated family members, Ted and Donna Agniel are blessings to all in the L’Arche community.

Ted and Donna have seen the L’Arche mission transform their own lives and the lives of each member of their family as they lived the mission at home with their daughter, now a L’Arche Core Member. They believe that the message of respect, belonging, and celebration offers the same opportunity for transformation to all who encounter it. In the midst of a city, country, and culture so often characterized by division, Ted and Donna believe L’Arche is more important now than ever before. L’Arche teaches communication, acceptance, and reconciliation.

As founding members of the St. Louis branch of the organization, they truly believe in the philosophy of L’Arche. They want to continue seeing this community succeed and grow, even beyond the point when they can personally make their monthly donation.

Donna and Ted take comfort in knowing that estate giving will make it possible for future families to encounter the transformative message of belonging that L’Arche offers, just as their own family did.

Nurse Susan

Three people stand, smiling, with their arms around each other, by a fireplace.

“Planned giving is an intentional way to support things you believe in in this life and for that to go on in the lives of other people after you’re gone.”

For many years, you could always find “Nurse Susan” in one of the L’Arche St. Louis homes. Whether doing monthly wellness checkups, helping in the garden, answering medical questions, or leading training for our Assistants, she has been a constant and welcome presence. Susan first connected with L’Arche in 2012 when there was just one house. Having grown up in Shrewsbury, Susan worked as a nurse in the St. Louis area for her entire career before retiring with her husband in Webster Groves.

In addition to being a remarkable resource to the community, Susan also decided to include L’Arche St. Louis in her will. When asked why she wanted to pursue estate giving with L’Arche, Susan explained: “I have enjoyed watching the community grow over the past several years, with leadership that is truly committed to the well-being of the Core Members and the Assistants. I believe in what I see there.”

In thinking ahead for her own future, Susan pursued planned giving as a way to continue to be a supportive member of the L’Arche family for years to come.
