Edward in the Office… with Jackie!
At L’Arche St. Louis, our office team is made up of folks focused on programs, operations, finances, development, HR, outreach, and everything in between. This year, Edward’s been sitting down with each team member to find out how they all work to support our mission of inclusion and belonging as well as learning some fun facts!
Today, the spotlight is on our Development and Finance Coordinator, Jackie. Here’s what Edward found out!
Edward: What do you do at L’Arche?
Jackie: I do a couple of different things. Primarily, I manage the finances and government benefits of our Core Members and work with Amy to manage bills. Along with finance, I’m also the development coordinator. This basically consists of trying to fundraise and spread the word about L’Arche St. Louis through things like fairs, schools, or social media as well as helping with the setup, tear-down, planning, and advertising for community events. Lastly, I do a lot of IT stuff, like setting up computers, going to houses to fix their technology, and running software updates.
Edward: What is one of your favorite memories from working at L’Arche?
Jackie: The Core Members make it a really fun and welcoming place to be. A favorite memory I have involves a Core Member named Jimmy and my dog, Bear. One day, Jimmy and I were watching TV, and he was completely silent for about 20 minutes. Suddenly, he picks up a fake phone call and says, “Hello? Bear? Jackie, it’s Bear, he’s calling for you.” I burst out laughing because of how sudden the “call” was. He was telling me how Bear missed me, and the interaction just felt so warm and kind.
Edward: What do you like to do in your free time?
Jackie: I like spending time with friends. Sometimes, my friends come over and we cook or bake something, then watch scary movies together. When I’m not at home, I like to go to the Muny, as well as walk in the park, and hike places like the Shaw Nature Reserve. I also enjoy photography and reading, especially classic literature.
Edward: What kind of music do you listen to and what is your favorite band/artist?
Jackie: I would describe my favorite music genre as pop, folky, indie music. One of my favorite artists right now has to be Noah Kahan.
