Edward in the Office… with Justin!
Justin, Edward, and Adien at the State Capitol!
At L’Arche St. Louis, our office team is made up of folks focused on programs, operations, finances, development, HR, outreach, and everything in between. This summer, Edward’s been sitting down with each team member to find out how they all work to support our mission of inclusion and belonging as well as learning some fun facts!
Today, the spotlight is on our Operations Manager, Justin. Here’s what Edward found out!
Edward: What do you do at L’Arche?
Justin: My main responsibility as Operations Manager is to oversee finances for the organization, especially the government income. So a big part of that is working with the Department of Mental Health, which is linked to the funding for our people. I am also involved in supervising the budgeting process for our organization, as well as planning surrounding policy advocacy.
Justin was also one of our founding Assistants at Sunrise House in 2011.
Edward: What is your favorite part about L’Arche?
Justin: I love that L’Arche is a community that values relationships. I’ve always been impressed by how much belonging there is here, and the way others feel belonging when they come into it. I really enjoy trips and connecting with people from other L’Arche communities. I like that I get to work on numbers while also spending time with people in this community. Lately, I’ve been hanging out at Sunrise house to help cook dinner and it has been a blast.
Edward: What do you like to do in your free time?
Justin: I really enjoy active hobbies like rock climbing, bicycling, softball, basketball, hiking, and traveling. In addition to that, I also like to read, write, spend time with loved ones, and pester Edward.
Edward: What’s the coolest animal you’ve ever seen in real life?
Justin: I recently saw a mama and baby moose crossing the Yukon river which was a really remarkable sight. I’ve also once held a baby crocodile in Peru.
